Challenge
Self-employed creatives often lack transparent, relatable career insights from people in their field. While business podcasts and interviews exist, they rarely focus on the real, practical experiences of freelancers, solopreneurs, and creative entrepreneurs. There was a need for deep, first-hand stories about the realities of self-employment in creative industries.
Goal
Build a video interview platform that captures and shares the journeys of self-employed creatives, allowing users to:
• Watch in-depth video interviews with freelancers and entrepreneurs
• Read full transcriptions for easy reference
• Browse a structured library of interviews, filterable by creative field (e.g., designers, illustrators, photographers, YouTubers)
Solution
I designed and developed funemployed, a platform that serves as a living archive of self-employment journeys across creative industries. Each interview page features:
• A YouTube video interview, offering candid, long-form discussions
• A full written transcript, making content skimmable and accessible
• Content breakdowns, with timestamps and topic highlights
• Filters for easy discovery, enabling users to explore interviews by industry, profession, and creative niche
As the sole founder, designer, and developer, I executed every aspect—from UX/UI and content architecture to website development and video production. The result is a valuable, community-driven resource that provides real-world insights into the creative freelance journey.
